Christine came with her camera, her sketchbook, and her Brompton. She’s the type of girl to capture beauty when she sees it, and she’s got a natural eye.

Her illustrations? Artful and expressive. Her Brompton? Built from the ground up with a charmingly personal look.

The rosy pink frame complements the cherry-wood color of her Brooks Saddle. She’s installed pink heart reflectors to accent the motif. Riding through Prospect Park, she looks very much a part of the scene.

Christine’s Brompton allows her to see what other’s can’t. She’s happy to go the extra mile –

As we round a corner, pulling up a hill in Central Park, he tells me, “Peter, these Bromptons have changed my life.” We’re out here in the cool March afternoon to follow that passion.

Newton started out with a Xootr kick scooter. He rode it down mountain passes in South America. After that he moved to a Dahon Vector P8. That bike crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. Seeking an easier carry on size he moved to a Brompton S6L Black, dubbed “James Brown.” James was Newton’s first racing Brompton. Adventurer. Liberator.

Flash forward – Lisbon. 2014 Portuguese Brompton Championships. Rain for the first time in months. It’s a cobble stone course. Lined up at the start, another rider smiles, looks over Newton’s thin tires, and says simply, “Kojaks… uh oh…”

Newton blasts from the starting line and takes an early lead, staying close to the front. The course is lined with locals. Cheering. Heart pounding, the third lap already feels like the 8th. He rounds a tight corner and in a moment, he’s down. Damn slick cobbles! At the finish he gets lots of compliments for speed. “You might have placed 11th!” an enthusiastic racer says. So close!

Present day – the 2015 Brompton World Championship is on the rise and Newton is getting a jump start on the training season. James Brown is off revolutionizing the life of his new owner. Newton’s M6L Red/White “Otis Redding” and new super light M6E Berry Crush/Titanium “Jimi Hendrix” have taken the main stage. Otis is the work horse. Jimi is the rock star.

Making our second lap of the park, it’s clear Jimi is here to shred.

Date night takes us to Long Island City. That beautiful spot. The seemingly ancient ferry terminals mingling with shiny new skyscrapers. The iconic glow from the Pepsi Cola sign. The waterfront, the boardwalk, it’s all perfect. A perfect place to ride, stroll, sit, cuddle, relax. Breathing together with the whole Big Apple laid out down the river.

Todd got his Brompton first. It’s a 3 speed with “M” handlebars. Red frame paired with red ORP smart horn. Black extremities matched to black Lightskin seat post. Todd has style and – not surprisingly – so does Bernadette. She got a Brompton soon after. The exciting idea of riding together was a palpable presence in the room as we discussed it’s color – Claret. A color of wine, sophistication, warmth, and class.

These two Brommie lovers really know how to enjoy life. Exploring the city on their Bromptons. Sampling the Queens restaurant scene. Doing what they want, when they want. Free on two wheels. A dynamic pair.

Eric moved to New York City

Say hello to Eric’s Brompton. Down to the letter, it’s been customized to suit his lifestyle: speedy enough for the commute, sturdy enough for the beatings, and stylish enough for the ladies. The Turkish Green painted frame is a unique color, but Eric is a unique cyclist.

He’s installed a Powerhead Saddle for comfort, studded tires to power through ice and snow, and the ORP horn to make a very loud statement. He rides on a Lightskin seatpost with integrated lights. Style and safety first.

It’s 20 degrees outside, but that doesn’t stop Eric from getting to work. When you live in Queens and commute to Manhattan, there are a couple of options. Squeeze like sardines on to the 7 train. Catch a bus…and catch a cold. Eric prefers to move quicker. His Brompton is his commuter.

Every morning, he breathes in the fresh air of the East River and soars over the Queensboro Bridge. Every night, he catches an aerial view of Midtown glimmering against the sky. Eric always gets home on time.
